Follicular Unit Transplants (FUT)

FUT hair transplant, also called strip hair transplant, is a hair restoration procedure where follicular units consisting of 1 to 4 hairs are harvested from a strip of donor tissue. These units are then transplanted into the area to be treated.

FUT hair transplant involves a strip of tissue being removed from the donor area under local anaesthesia. This is usually in the back and sides of the scalp which is more resistant to balding. This strip of tissue is then processed by our experienced hair technicians who separate the follicular units from the tissue using a microscope. Each follicular unit consists of 1 to 4 hairs. Tiny holes called recipient sites are made in the area to be treated and the follicular units are then transplanted into these sites.

Frequently Asked Questions

You will firstly attend for a consultation with one of our experienced hair transplant surgeons to discuss your needs and expectations from the treatment. We will work with you to assess the number of grafts that will be required to give you your desired outcome. Following the procedure, the treated area is washed and dried and you are allowed home. You will have a follow up appointment the following day to check both the donor area and the treated site and if all is well, you will be discharged with a follow up appointment at 6 months and again at 1 year. It is important to understand that the initial transplanted hairs will fall out at 3 months however the hair bulbs will remain in the transplanted sites. Hairs will grow from these bulbs and you may develop tiny spots on the scalp which may feel itchy. This is entirely normal. The final result will be assessed at your 1 year follow up appointment.
